Connectivity · Rural & remote

Leased-line performance, without the £30k quote or the wait.

A fibre leased line to a rural site can mean tens of thousands in excess construction charges and 6-12 months of digging — if it's available at all. Starlink and bonded 4G/5G give you the throughput, a static IP and an SLA in days, at a fraction of the cost.

The problem

For a rural site, a leased line is often the wrong tool.

Traditional fibre leased lines are excellent — where they already reach. Out at a rural or remote site, they rarely do. To serve you, a carrier has to build fibre from the nearest point of presence all the way to your door, and you pay for it through excess construction charges (ECCs). For a genuinely remote site that can mean a quote running into tens of thousands of pounds, sometimes far more.

Then there's time. A rural leased line commonly needs 6 to 12 months of wayleaves, planning, ducting and civils before it goes live — assuming the route can be built at all. Plenty of sites simply come back "not serviceable". For a project that needs connectivity now, that isn't an answer.

For most of the sites we serve there's a better route. Starlink and bonded 4G/5G, delivered through our managed core, give you leased-line-like performance — high throughput, a fixed static IP, an SLA and full management — in days rather than months, at a fraction of the cost. We'll be honest about where a real leased line still wins, but for rural sites it usually doesn't.

The alternatives

Faster, cheaper routes to the same result.

We don't lead with one technology. We survey your site, then engineer the mix that delivers the performance you need without the fibre build.

Starlink (LEO satellite)

What it is: low-earth-orbit satellite delivering high throughput and low latency almost anywhere. When it fits: genuinely remote sites with no usable fibre or cellular, where you need serious bandwidth fast.

Bonded / multi 4G & 5G

What it is: several cellular bearers bonded into one higher, steadier pipe with external antennas and the right carriers. When it fits: sites with decent mast coverage that need throughput and resilience without waiting on fibre.

Fixed wireless / point-to-point

What it is: a radio link to a nearby fibre tail or neighbouring building with clear line-of-sight. When it fits: fibre exists close by but not at your site, and you want near-fibre performance without the dig.

Bonded / hybrid blends

What it is: Starlink, cellular and wireless combined and held live together with intelligent path selection. When it fits: business-critical sites that want maximum uptime and no single point of failure.

Like for like

How they match a leased line.

The things you actually buy a leased line for — and how our managed alternatives deliver them.

Bandwidth

Starlink and bonded cellular deliver high downstream and healthy upstream throughput — ample for cloud, VoIP, CCTV, remote access and site systems.

Static IP

Traffic routed through our core gives you a fixed public static IP and clean addressing, so hosting, VPNs and inbound access work exactly as expected.

SLA & support

A proper service-level agreement with monitoring and named support — not a best-effort consumer line and a call centre.

Resilience / failover

Multiple bearers held live with automatic failover — often more resilient than a single fibre tail that can be cut in one place.

Install time

Days, not months. We pre-stage equipment so it arrives ready to run — no wayleaves, no civils, no 6-12 month wait.

Cost

No tens-of-thousands ECCs to build fibre. A predictable monthly cost that gets a remote site online for a fraction of the leased-line price.

How we deliver

From survey to a managed link with an SLA.

01

Survey

We assess location, coverage, line-of-sight and power to see which bearers your site can actually use.

02

Design the blend

We engineer the right mix of Starlink, cellular and wireless to hit your bandwidth, latency and resilience targets.

03

Install

Our engineers deploy on site, test every path and hand over a documented link with your static IP live.

04

Manage & SLA

24/7 monitoring, automatic failover and named support keep it dependable — backed by a service-level agreement.

Straight answer

When a leased line still makes sense.

A real leased line still wins when…

You need a guaranteed symmetric committed information rate (CIR) — matched upload and download that never dips, backed by a hard bandwidth guarantee. Where fibre is already in the ground and available and affordable, typically dense urban and business-park locations, a leased line can be the cleanest option. And for ultra-low-latency point-to-point requirements — trading, broadcast contribution, specific inter-site links — dedicated fibre is hard to beat.

…but for rural sites, the alternatives win.

Out where we work, that "available and affordable" fibre usually isn't there. The quote comes back at tens of thousands in ECCs, the lead time at 6-12 months, or the site as simply not serviceable. Our Starlink and bonded 4G/5G blends deliver the throughput, static IP, SLA and resilience those sites actually need — in days, at a cost that makes sense. We'll tell you honestly which side of the line your site falls on.

Questions

Leased line alternatives — your questions answered.

Why is my leased line quote so expensive or slow to deliver?
Rural leased lines carry excess construction charges (ECCs) for the fibre that has to be dug to your site — often tens of thousands of pounds and 6-12 months of lead time, if the route can be built at all. For remote sites the economics rarely stack up, which is why a managed rural connectivity blend is usually the better answer.
Can Starlink or 5G really replace a leased line?
For the sites we serve, usually yes. Starlink and bonded 4G/5G deliver high throughput, low latency and strong resilience. We add a static IP, managed routing and an SLA so it behaves like a leased line day to day. See our enterprise LTE/5G service for the cellular side.
Can I get a static IP and an SLA with the alternative?
Yes. We route your traffic through our managed core, so you get a fixed public static IP for Starlink and cellular, clean addressing and an SLA with monitoring and support — regardless of which bearers sit underneath.
How fast can it be installed?
After a site survey we pre-stage the equipment so it arrives ready to run. Starlink and 4G/5G links can often be live within days, against the 6-12 months a fibre leased line typically needs.
Is it reliable enough for business-critical use?
Yes. We hold multiple bearers live with automatic failover, monitor the link 24/7 and back it with an SLA. Blending Starlink with cellular removes any single point of failure — often more resilient than one fibre tail into a remote site, and easily extended across sites with SD-WAN.
